Lara-Scolari

‘As if diving beneath the surface (dreaming of what cannot be seen)’

After many years employed within the Regional Cultural Sector, Lara 2012 embraced an artist residency in Sydney. This was the catalyst for change and Lara now lives and works full time on her art making practice within her vibrant Balmain Gallery and Studio.

Within Lara’s Arts Practice, she explores painting and drawing (large scale, mixed media), Sculpture (clay – hand building) Printmaking (collographs and relief), Digital Media as well as Textiles. Her practical art making is continually enriched by continued studies, as she is currently undertaking a Masters in Cross Disciplinary Arts and Design with COFA UNSW.

Her work is produced in an Abstract Expressionist style that explores developed experimental techniques and processes, creating depth through the layers. Lara builds up each work using a variety of media, focusing on line, organic shape, colour and composition.

‘I endeavour to give each line and mark vibrancy, energy, motion, mystery and emotion that the viewer can experience.’

Working expressively, almost automatically in applying layers of line, form and gradated tone in gestures. Lara is an action painter, as she manipulates the medium into becoming an extension of her physical being, echoing her movement and emotive state. Lara creates a dialogue between layers of abstracted organic personal, sometimes figurative and cavernous forms suggestive of internal and intimate dioramas.

‘I am intrigued by the energies and complexities of human relationships including nurture, love, belief, communication and the complexity, undercurrents and agendas within these emotive states.’

Lara has expanded and developed this concept which informs an intimate visual language of tone, shape and line. These elements generate a personal response of emotions that are expressed within her work. The opportunity to explore this concept visually is an adventure without boundaries.
