Annarie Hildebrand

Annarie Hildebrand is a Sydney based artist currently working in printmaking and ceramics.

Annarie’s etchings are based on still lifes and inspired by objects ‘full of memories’. For her  creating a still life is about the history of the object, the people who may have handled and owned it, and the shape of plants arranged in the vessel.

Annarie’s ceramic works reference architectural forms, Dutch masters and vessel forms challenging traditional shapes. Working with porcelain slip gives her the tools to merge ideas and materials to create both sculptural and functional pieces. For Annarie, the making process starts with only a vague idea of a geometric shape, followed by a subconscious process of controlling and letting go. This allows the plaster moulds and slip to make their own marks and create unique pieces.

Annarie studied ceramics and printmaking at Sydney TAFE and completed her Advance Diploma in ceramics in 2022. Annarie’s prints have been selected as finalist in several prizes including the Ravenswood Womans’ Art Prize, Blacktown Art Prize, Hunters Hill Art Prize and she won the Lane Cove Art award (Drawing, Pastels or Prints) in 2019.
